Polenz Captures First Win of 2012 Season

Polenz celebrates his victory at the Wounded Warriors 100
What was originally scheduled as twin 50 lap features, turned out to be a 100 lap event due to inclement weather for the Wounded Warriors 100.
Practice
During the first practice round David felt that the car was still way too tight in the corners, just as it was on Opening Night. That type of problem will only get worse if you don't adjust the car so the team made adjustments and continued to as David went out for the next two practices. With those adjustments, David ended up second fastest on the speed chart.
Qualifying
The Polenz team was bit by Ole Lady Luck during qualifying. While David turned in some very good laps, the track timing device malfunctioned and his times didn't count. The track officials decided they would let David go out for one lap, which clocked him in at the fifth fastest, so with the invert David would be started on the outside pole in the second spot.
Race
David had an awesome start to the race and took the lead coming off of turn two. Shortly after that the caution came out but since David had completed his first lap he restarted the race in first. David was able to maintain the lead over the second place car through a few cautions and a red flag near the half way point of the 100 lapper. On the restart after the red flag David drove steady laps as the cars behind him fought for position. This worked in David's favor as he stretched his lead out and didn't have to run his car too hard. As the laps unfolded David's car seemed to be handling better and as positions changed behind him and the second place car was looking pretty fast. That's when the Polenz Team told David it was time to see what he had left in the car, He started running harder and managed to pull away from the second spot by about a straight away. David ended up winning by less than two seconds and lead the entire 100 laps. This marked David's first win of the 2012 season. David is currently the point leader at Old Dominion Speedway, however he won't be racing a full season there. The Polenz Team will be more concerned with the NASCAR Whelen All American Series national points, so please continue to check back for updates as the national points become available.
